About me

A goodbye that sounds like them

I'm Jayne, an independent funeral celebrant. I write and lead ceremonies that celebrate a life as it was really lived: the stories your family tells, the music they loved, the little habits everyone remembers.

A celebrant-led funeral can be as religious or non-religious as you wish. You might want a hymn and a quiet prayer, or a favourite song and a toast. It's your choice, and I'll work with you, your family and your funeral director to bring it together.

How it works

From first call to the day itself

We talk

I'll visit you at home or speak by phone, at a pace that suits you. Tell me about them: their life, the people they loved, what made them laugh. You don't need the right words. I'll help you find them.

I write their story

I'll shape everything you've shared into a personal tribute and order of service, with your choice of music, readings and moments of reflection. You see the draft and can change anything.

The ceremony

On the day I'll lead the service with warmth and dignity, look after the timings, and guide anyone giving a reading, so your family can simply be together.

Common questions

Things families often ask

What does a funeral celebrant do?

A celebrant writes and leads a funeral or memorial ceremony that is built around the person who has died, rather than a set religious service. I'll meet with you, gather memories, write the tribute and conduct the service on the day.

Can we include a hymn or a prayer?

Yes. A celebrant ceremony can include as much or as little religious content as you'd like, from a hymn or the Lord's Prayer to none at all.

Do I contact you or the funeral director?

Either is fine. You can ask your funeral director to book me, or get in touch with me directly and I'll liaise with them on dates and arrangements.

Can family members speak during the service?

Of course. I'm happy to help anyone who'd like to give a reading or tribute, and I can read words on someone's behalf if it becomes too much on the day.
